Winslet knew she would return home without an Oscar

Five-time Oscar nominee Kate Winslet already knew that she would return home without any award, as she did not reckon anybody else to be in direct competition with Dame Helen Mirren in the Best Actress category.

The Titanic star had been nominated for her portrayal of a desperate young mother in Little Children, but she had an idea that she did not stand any chance to hold the trophy aloft.

“I think it’s never been a more foregone conclusion (that Mirren would win) and that’s fantastic,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“She’s worked her ass off for God knows how many years, and she’s delivering one of the best performances she’s ever given (THE QUEEN). Why in hell should anyone like me win that award this year?” she added.

Winslet further said that she did not mind missing out on Oscar gold, and that she was just happy to attend the Academy Awards ceremony.
